From Fort Le Boeuf to Little Cooley on Route 77, the road followed the Indian trail used by Washington. At the other end, from Franklin northward, for four miles the route also followed an Indian trail; today Route 417 utilizes this path to Bethel Church. The remainder needed to be opened.
