The fair and parade season is almost over for this summer. Here in the Erie area they have stated that they have had problems getting participants for the parades. I recall how we used to have very elaborate floats in the parades when I was growing up. The churches and some schools in the area would get everyone together and we would make all the decorations. I recall making thousands of tissue flowers to cover a flatbed or hay wagon. I know that in the really large parades for holidays and football they use real flowers now. But, in this area we don't see any of those floats anymore. When I went to see Mom in July she gave me two boxes of pictures to sort through and I found pictures of parades and the wagon train that went through Mill Village. She didn't have dates on any of these pictures so I'm not sure what parades they were from and I don't recall the date of the wagon train.      Taken on July 13, 1976 |
