The first Save-An-Eye game, sponsored by the Erie Lions Club, was played in 1939. The game pitted the East Allstar football players against the West Allstar football players. It was not until the 14th game, in 1952, that the format was changed to the City Allstars playing against the County Allstars.
The East team consisted of players from Tech, East, Wesleyville, Lawrence Park, Harbor Creek, North East, Wattsburg and Union City. The West team consisted of players from Academy, Strong Vincent, Cathedral Prep, Millcreek, Fairview, Girard, Albion, McKean, Waterford and Edinboro.
I am only going to list those players that were from Waterford/Fort Le Boeuf in this summary. There was one player that played in the 1940 game for Wesleyville that you may recognize . . . Carm Bonito.
